Investing in pallet wrap machinery could do wonders for your business, saving you time and money with an efficient system which also reduces tiring manual labour for you and your employees.
However, if your machine starts to show faults or isn’t running as smoothly as usual then this can slow the work process down considerably. Here are a few things to look out for that may suggest your machinery could be in need of a once over.
Costs in film
You may find that you’ve wrapped your pallet load and the film is loose and not holding your product securely. If this is the case then your film may be too loose to withstand transportation with the risk of your products falling off their pallet. Heavy objects could cause injury when moving them in and out of the warehouse, so it’s very important to flag up any issues to maximise on work safety.
Alternatively, your film might be too tight around your product, causing it to snap due to too much tension. This could lead to problems during shipping, and again can lead to injury if pallets eventually fall apart.
Apart from the possible dangers it could pose, having to re-wrap pallets that haven’t been wrapped correctly will lead to a backlog in your workload and will also be a waste of film if pallets keep being wrapped incorrectly.
Staff shortage
Having a pallet wrapping machine eliminates the need for staff to wrap pallets by hand. This means you have a few extra pairs of hands to undertake different jobs around the warehouse and you may have adapted your work system to accommodate for the extra time.
You may even have felt that you didn’t need as many members of staff after investing in wrapping machinery. However, if you haven’t had your machine serviced on a regular basis, then you may experience unexpected breakdowns due to wear and tear or because of a faulty component.
This means that when your pallet wrapper is temporarily out of service, extra staff are needed to do the job which will disrupt and delay the work system which you have in place.
TLC goes a long way
Regular maintenance checks could save you costly repairs in the long run and could extend the life of your machinery. What may start off as a minor fault which is easily fixable, could turn into a problem which causes further damage to the appliance.
Leaving problems until it’s too late may result in you having to replace your machine, so having your equipment serviced will increase its reliability, minimising on inconvenient breakages.
